After working in Shooglenifty for a good number of years I decided to push on with some other areas of my music and pursued a number of side projects that certainly couldn't have been part of Shooglenifty repertoire or sound.
The first of these was a solo album of just mandolin and percussion. This album put me in close working quarters with Calum Malcolm who I have returned to work with for most of my other projects.
A year after the solo album I organised a trip for six musicians from various backgrounds and countries to meet, rehearse and record an album of scored music - all within the space of one week.
Touring such a band would require a lot more of either convenience or money so at the moment I am trying to work out a number of more local ensembles to develop similar music.
